McEwen and Oram named Athletes of the Week

Women’s soccer player Kathrine McEwen, and men’s baseball player, Jay Oram, have been named the Holland Hurricanes Athletes of the Week for the week ending September 9.

McEwen, of Stratford, PEI, scored three goals over the weekend as the team opened their season with two wins.  She began her weekend with two goals in a 10-0 win over the Dal AC Rams in the team’s home opener before scoring the only Hurricanes goal in a 1-0 victory in Moncton on Sunday versus the Crandall Chargers.

The 5’4”, center midfielder is in her first year at Holland College and studying in the Business Administration program.

The ‘Canes, 2-0 and tied for the top spot in the ACAA standings, returns to the pitch this weekend at home; first hosting the MSVU Mystics at 1pm on Saturday before taking on the UKC Blue Devils at 2pm on Sunday. Both games take place at the Terry Fox Sports Complex in Cornwall.

Oram, from Summerside, PEI, had a strong weekend in the ‘Canes four victories to open the season.  In Saturday’s season opening double-header at home versus St. Mary’s, Oram went 4-for-9 with 3 RBI’s and a run scored; he followed this up with a 6-for-9 day on Sunday in a double-header in Wolfville, NS versus the Acadia Axemen, adding 4 runs and 3 RBI’s.

The 6’2” shortstop is in his third year with the Hurricanes and is studying in the Wind Turbine Technician program.

The ‘Canes, 4-0, return to action this Sunday when they visit the University of New Brunswick for a pair of games in Fredericton; game times are 1 and 3:30pm.
